World tourism is doing well and many experts see in this activity one of the engines of the global economy next year. However, a grain of sand could halt the beautiful machine in 2006: Conservationists want to limit air travel, as they are a major source of CO2 pollution

In its annual report, released on Jan. 24 in Madrid, the World Tourism Organization, which depends on the United Nations, announced that 2005 was a good year for tourism. Despite a series of tragic events such as the tsunami that devastated Southeast Asia in December 2004 and destroyed tourism facilities in the region or the hurricanes that swept through the Caribbean and Louisiana.
Among the regions concerned by this improvement, Africa is prominently. "Although being with the Middle East, the least visited continent in the world, Africa, with 10% increase, is the only one to have significantly increased the number of visitors between 2004 and 2005," highlights the south African newspaper Cape Times.
